How to Find the Correct Industrial Fan Replacement by Model Number

Replacing an industrial fan may look simple, but choosing a fan based only on size or appearance can easily lead to the wrong product. Two fans with similar dimensions may have completely different voltage, speed, airflow, pressure, power consumption, wiring, and mounting requirements.

For most replacement projects, the safest starting point is the manufacturer and complete model number printed on the original fan nameplate.

1. Start With the Complete Model Number

Industrial fan manufacturers often use long model numbers to identify a specific electrical and mechanical configuration.

Examples include:

  • ebm-papst R2E220-AB06-05
  • ebm-papst D2D160-CE02-11
  • ZIEHL-ABEGG FB063-6EK.4I.V4P
  • ZIEHL-ABEGG RF22P-2DK.3F.5R
  • FULLTECH UF-12A23BWH

Do not ignore the suffix after the main series number. A small difference in the model code may indicate a different voltage, motor, speed, protection class, connection, or mounting configuration.

2. Check the Manufacturer

The same-looking fan may be produced by different manufacturers, so identifying the brand is important.

Common industrial fan manufacturers include:

  • SUNON

Whenever possible, search using the brand + full model number rather than the model alone.

3. Read the Fan Nameplate

Important information may include:

  • Rated voltage
  • Frequency
  • Input power
  • Rated current
  • Speed
  • IP protection rating
  • Capacitor specification
  • Maximum ambient temperature
  • Manufacturer article number

4. Confirm Voltage and Frequency

Never select a replacement fan only because it has the same dimensions.

For example, industrial fans may use:

  • 115VAC
  • 230VAC
  • 3~400VAC
  • 24VDC
  • 48VDC
  • EC power systems

They may also operate at 50Hz, 60Hz, or both.

5. Compare Speed, Airflow and Static Pressure

Three important performance specifications are:

Speed — RPM

Fan rotational speed.

Airflow — m³/h or CFM

The amount of air the fan can move.

Static Pressure — Pa

The fan's ability to overcome resistance in the airflow system.

A fan with higher airflow is not automatically a better replacement. The operating point must match the original equipment requirements.

6. Check Physical Dimensions and Mounting

Besides the fan diameter, check:

  • Overall dimensions
  • Installation depth
  • Mounting hole positions
  • Inlet and outlet dimensions
  • Cable direction
  • Connector type
  • Fan rotation direction
  • Airflow direction
